The Early Law School Entry
Jurisprudence Program

in the Legal, Ethical & Historical Studies Division
at the University of Baltimore


The Jurisprudence-Early Entry Program substitutues the first year of law school for the last year of college. Applicants for the Early Entry Program are to have earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 in courses transferred to the university. All applicants should be interviewd by the program director prior to admission into the program.

Requirements


  1. Philosophy (6 credit hours).
    1. PHIL 301 Ethics or PHIL 490 Theories of Justice
    2. PHIL 317 Logic of Language
  2. History (6-9 credit hours). Early Entry Jurisprudence students must take at least six credits of history courses, including:
    1. At least one of the following
      1. HIST 310 Ancient Civilizations
      2. HIST 311 Emergence of Europe
      3. HIST 312 Age of Revolutions
      4. HIST 313 Europe 1815-1914
      5. HIST 314 Europe Since 1914
      6. HIST 317 Early America
      7. HIST 318 Modern America
      8. HIST 320 America Since 1940
      9. HIST 446 History of Christianity
      10. HIST 463 Hitler's Germany
      11. HIST 466 History of Africa
      12. HIST 468 American Political History
      13. HIST 475 Topics in Women's History
    2. And at least one of the following
      1. HIST 331 English Law and Society to 1689
      2. HIST 332 English Law and Society Since 1689
      3. HIST 340 American Legal History
      4. HIST 377 New South and Civil Rights
      5. HIST 434 American Constitutional History
      6. HIST 438 Great Trials in History
      7. HIST 440 History of the Common Law
  3. Government (6-9 credit hours). Early Entry Jurisprudence students must take at least six credits of government courses, including:
    1. At least one of the following
      1. GVPP 300 American Political Institutions
      2. GVPP 322 Bureaucracy and Public Policy
      3. GVPP 326 Urban Politics and Public Policy
      4. GVPP 344 American Presidency
      5. GVPP 345 The Legislative Process
      6. GVPP 348 State and Local Government
      7. GVPP 362 Media and Government
      8. GVPP 384 Comparative Government
      9. GVPP 461 Maryland Govt. and Political Processes
    2. And at least one of the following
      1. GVPP 340 Constitutional Law
      2. GVPP 341 Civil Rights and Civil Liberties
      3. GVPP 381 American Political Thought
      4. GVPP 382 Political Ideologies
      5. GVPP 425 Administrative Law and Processes
      6. GVPP 427 Democracy, Ethics, and the Administrative Process
  4. Electives (6 credits maximum). Early Entry Jurisprudence students may count up to six credits of electives from among the following courses towards their 96 hour total:
    1. Communications (3 credits)
      1. CMAT 300 or 303 Public Speaking or Oral Communication in Business
      2. CMAT 320 Argumentation, Debate, and Society
      3. WRIT 314 Writing Workshop: Argument and Persuasion
    2. Statistical Methods and Evaluation of Evidence (3 credits)
      1. GVPP 408, SOCI 403, CRJU 302 Research Methods
      2. APST 308 Statistics for the Social Sciences
    3. Economics (3 credits)
      1. ECON 300 or 307 Principles of Economics, or Money and Banking
    4. By permission: Students may count one additional three credit course in English, history, philosophy, government, criminal justice, sociology or psychology towards their 96 hour total with the permission of the Program Director.
