Project 1: PC Diagnostic

INSS315

This project requires you to use free programs found on the Web. These are very simple programs that run in Windows, only. Later in this course we will use more advanced tools.Projects are to be done in small groups and posted on a Web page report. The Web page URL (page address) is placed on the corresponding tab of the Assignment folder of WebTycho.

What to do?

  1. Look for three machines with different configurations on campus, home or work. You will run a selected software in each of these machines.
  2. Download and install CPU-Z, BruteBenchmark, and Aida32 to all three machines (this does not require privileges to install programs in Windows). Compare the three machines and the three different tools and through examples explain the best uses of each one of the tools.
  3. Download and install BMX in one of these machines (this will require privileges to do so), preferably a Celeron machine. Run the memory benchmark. If this is a Celeron, explain why Celerons are cheaper than the other machines.
  4. Group 1 students will present (using PowerPoint) their results of this project in the February 9 class meeting.
  5. All groups are supposed to post the URL (Web address) of the Web page containing the report by February 8 in the ASSIGNMENTS area of WebTycho, for Project 1.
