Encryption
One of the best way to prevent unauthorized access (more formally, cryptography)
Process of disguising info by mathematical rules
Main components of encryption systems
- Plaintext: Unencrypted message
- Encryption algorithm: Works like the locking mechanism to a safe
- Key: Works like the safe’s combination
- Cipher text: Produced from the plaintext message by the encryption function
Decryption - the same process in reverse
- Doesn’t always use the same key or algorithm.
- Plaintext results from decryption
