Creating a WWW directory to be seen In Worf

As a student, faculty, or staff, you can create a www directory in Maestro (the SGI/Unix network) to let your pages be seen on the Web using Worf (the SGI, Netscape Commerce Server). The objective of this tutorial is to show how to create a WWW directory in Maestro (your uxnnn account , if you are a student, or your regular SGI/Indy account if you are faculty or staff ).

If you are a member of the University of Baltimore community you can also create a WWW directory in your UBmail account. If you do not have an UBmail or a SGI/Indy account go to AC101 and open one.

How to create and go to the WWW directory in Maestro

• log in your account in the SGI/Indys.

• open an Unix shell: from the Desktop menu of the tool chest, choose "UNIX Shell"

• to create: at the % prompt type mkdir ~/www .

• to make it accessible on the Web at the % prompt type pweb

• to go to it: at the % prompt type cd www .

• to go back to the main directory: at the $ prompt type cd ...

• your URL (web address) will be: http://worf.ubalt.edu/~uxnnn/ followed by the name of your pages (uxnnn is your user account in the SGI/Indys).

• You can create your pages using Webmagic directly in this WWW directory of your SGI/Indy account.

• If you are a student, you should, later, copy your pages to your WWW directory in UBMAIL using Xftp, for your SGI/Indy account is only active while you are a student. The UBMAIL account you can keep as alumni.
