Congressional Reconstruction

National Citizenship Conceived (1865-1877)

Map 1 depicts the developments discusssed in Part I.A of The Persistence of the Confederate Narrative ("The 1787 Order Reconstructed"). In this section, we argue that Congressional Reconstruction was a time where a new National Citizenship was conceived. This conception was enacted at law through the passage of three Amendments (13, 14, 15) and four major Civil Rights Acts (Acts of 1866, 1870, 1871 1875).
