My birth certificate says "Territory of Alaska" because I was born there before it was a state. I grew up in Maryland, where I currently live and teach high school English and creative writing, specifically British Literature. Teaching is not my first career. I didn't seriously pursue a bachelor's degree until I was 42 years old. Prior to teaching I was a waitress, bartender, restaurant manager, food and beverage manager, real estate agent, seller of cars, display designer for a record company, and various other things. I am a certified wine specialist and a certified color analyst for a make-up company. I have my motorcycle license, play clarinet and saxophone, and enjoy photography and calligraphy. I have an MS from Johns Hopkins in Technology for Educators. Currently I am working on an MFA from the University of Baltimore in Creative Writing and Publishing.
I am the single parent of two amazing daughters.
I have been writing for years, mostly journals. My focus for my MFA is memoir writing, and I have a piece entitled "Bewitched Again" coming out in an anthology in the spring of 2011. |
