Dr. Christine Nielsen
Dr. Nielsen is Professor
of International Business and Strategy at the Merrick School of Business at
the University of Baltimore. She serves as Academic Director of the
Northrop Grumman Electronic Sensors International Management Program and
the Northrop Grumman International Scholar. Professor Nielsen has served as
the director of numerous international business programs for managers,
including positions as Academic Director of the World of Business
Opportunities seminar series at the University of Baltimore, Academic
Director of an Executive MBA (EMBA) Central European Study Program;
Administrative Director of International Training Programs; and
Administrative Director of a Center for Transnational Management
Development. She is a frequent lecturer in international training programs
for managers, such as the Motorola In-House MBA in Plantation, Florida; two
Canadian EMBA programs (University of Quebec at Montreal, University of
Ottawa); and the International Summer MBA Program at the University of Kent
in the U.K. Her research interests include International Competitiveness in
High Technology Industries, Management of Technology as a Strategic Asset,
Managing Technology Transfer to Developing Countries, and Cross-Cultural
Management Studies.
Research
Her research interests
include International Competitiveness in High Technology Industries,
Management of Technology as a Strategic Asset, Managing Technology Transfer
to Developing Countries, and Cross-Cultural Management Studies. She
received grants from the National Science Foundation and the IEEE
Foundation for her research on electronic document creation and delivery
for the scientific and engineering communities. She publishes in journals
such as the Journal of High Technology Management Research, International
Journal of Remote Sensing, International Management Review, International
Studies of Management and Organization, and in books, such as Global Issues
of Information Technology Management. She was a finalist in the Southern
Business Administration Association Innovation Awards Program for designing
a graduate course, Managing Global Production and Technology.
Consultancies
and Corporate Advisory Boards
Nielsen serves as a
consultant to both the public and private sectors. She has served on
corporate advisory boards for two technology-based firms in the remote
sensing industry: RADARSAT International (RSI) and SPOT Image Corporation.
As a consultant to RSI, she served on a seven-member team to create the RSI
international strategic business plan. Her work with federal agencies
includes the Office of the U.S. Special Trade Representative, the U.S.
Department of State, and the U.S. Agency for International
Development.
Editorial Activities.
Nielsen is Past President of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of
Technology. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Global
Information Management, and served as guest editor of a IEEE Technology and
Society Magazine special issue on International Space Year: Mission to
Planet Earth.
Awards and
Recognition
Nielsen was featured in
the Baltimore Business Journal April 2000 special issue: "Who's Who in
Higher Education" as one of the area's top 25 most influential
business educators, for international business education leadership, and
for revolutionizing the way that international business is taught at the
University of Baltimore. She has received a Governor's Citation from the
State of Maryland for "outstanding service as Director of
International Programs…[and for] contributions to further the economic
development agenda of Maryland’s businesses." Nielsen is a recipient
of The George Washington University (GWU) Graduate International Business
Award, and a GWU Fellowship. She received an Outstanding Achievement Award
from the Florida International University (FIU) College of Business
Administration, an FIU Summer Research Award, and three FIU Minority
Faculty Development Awards. She has appeared on the Merrick School of
Business "Top Ten" faculty list for excellence in teaching.
International
Business Courses
Over the past twenty
years, Nielsen has taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels,
including such courses as International Business Strategy I and II,
Business in the Global Environment, Managing Global Production and
Technology, Strategic Alliances in the European Context, Multinational
Management, and International Management.
