I. Course Information

Catalog description: Examination of human interactions in work settings that impact individual mental health and organizational health and productivity. Emphasis on preventing and intervening to reduce stress, frustration, conflict and violence, sexual harassment and other social problems in the workplace by applying research in emotional intelligence, personality, social perception, communication, persuasion and teamwork.

II. Objectives of course:  At the completion of the course, you should:

  1. Have a better understanding of your own behavior as well as the behavior of others.
  2. Improve your ability to deal effectively with stress, change, and personal problems at work and at home.
  3. Improve your ability to better manage their time to maximize performance at work
  4. Have an enhanced understanding of the importance of ethics and professionalism and be able to apply ethical principles at work.
  5. Be better able to understand and work with diverse groups of people.
  6. Be better able to deal with interpersonal conflict.
  7. Have an increased understanding of how to communicate effectively with others.
  8. Have a better understanding of group dynamics
  9. Have an enhanced ability to get others to like you.
  10. Have a clear understanding of what it takes to be an effective leader.
  11. Know how to structure a job to make it more satisfying.
  12. Apply motivational techniques to improve workers' performance
  13. Be better able to communicate expectations so others will better understand what you want of them.

 III.  Class format: Assigned material will be discussed and clarified.  Class time will also be used for skills development exercises.

Total for three exams:    A  = 150 - 180      B = 135 -149      C = 120 - 134    D = 105 - 119     F = <105
