Mini-project 3: Memory Optimization

INSS315 - Spring 1997

Each group should use a software utility like MemMaker (DOS 6.0), QEMM386, etc, to optimize conventional, extended and expanded memory for a 386, or better, PC system, assuming that the user will run Windows with a mix of DOS and Windows applications and prepare a report regarding the work done. The report should contain the following items:

  1. Introduction:

Run MEM/C and obtain information about the existing and available conventional, extended and expanded memory. Explain the implications for memory management of the user's need to run Windows with a mix of DOS and Windows applications.

  2. Description:

What did you do (e.g. Run MEMMAKER)? Run MEM once more and report the changes, if any, in the existing and available conventional, extended and expanded memory. Also include a printout of Autoexec.bat and config.sys (just of the relevant parts).

  3. Conclusion:

What did the user gain after you optimized the memory of his/her computer? What can he/she do now that he/she could not do before?

Enter all your results in a file and e-mail it to me with the subject: 315m3. Be sure to include the group number and member names and cc to all group members. The due date is April 22 (up to midnight).

That's it folks!
