Flow Control

• Ask the Other Device to Pause (or Slow Down)

• ASCII

  • In asynch, usually done by sending ASCII control codes
  • XOFF tells other side to pause
  • XON tells the other device to resume

• Serial Port

  • Signals on the pins control when PC, modem can transmit
