COURSE MATERIALS
CONCEPT AND GOALS
This course will present students with an overview of family law, including an examination of the legal definition of family, legal responsibilities of family members, and family break-up and reorganization. The course materials draw on policy, cases and statutes from a variety of jurisdictions with special emphasis on Maryland law.
ASSIGNMENTS AND GRADES
III. ASSIGNMENTS AND GRADES
A. Class assignments: Students are expected to complete the reading assignments from the text and supplemental materials, to attend each class on time, and participate in class discussions of readings and problems. Consistently active class participation demonstrating you have read and thought about the issues raised in the assignment is expected.
At the beginning of the semester, I will divide the class into "Firms." Each Firm will have primary responsibility for the materials in designated weeks. Although I will designate Firms, you should always feel free to participate throughout the term. In addition, I will occasionally call on people outside of the designated Firm. Please note that failure to participate when called upon, will be deemed an unexcused absence.
B. Grade: your final grade will be determined as follows:
1) Final take home examination (75%);
2) Class assignments including class participation in discussions of cases,
problems, etc.; court observation assignment and in class written assignments (25%).
