Friday's Program

1:00 to 5:00 PM "Bringing Life to Management: Creating Real Organizations for Real Learning"  showcases an ambitious approach to experiential education in which organizer Steven Maser  (smaser@willamette.edu) and his workshop participants (Tammy Hiller, Larry Michaelson, John A.Miller, Kathleen Powers and J. Frederick Truitt) demonstrate how to develop a management course in which students create their own real world companies during the semester from start to finish. This approach has been adopted at  30 US universities and offered to 5000 students in more than 200 company teams..

1:00 to 2:30 PM "Exploring Change through Impossible Projects" features Jeffrey Ford's  (ford.1@osu.edu) highly acclaimed approach to enticing and guiding  students to develop work-place projects with "Impossible goals" so as to stretch themselves to accomplish far more than most students think possible.

3:00 to 5:00 PM "Self Managed Teams in the Classroom " by Robert Silvers (silversr@cwu.edu) demonstrates a successful approach to using self-managed teams in the classroom and also examines some common pitfalls in working with self-managed teams.

5:30 to 7:00 PM  "Escape from Cluelessness" is Lee Bolman's  (lbolman@umkc.edu) provocative and playful examination of  the contrast between the ideal world we portray in our management class and the less ideal world satirized by Dilbert and widely acknowledged by management practitioners as painfully if hilariously close to reality.
